Getting Started

What is NoteTag?

NoteTag lets you attach a rich, editable note to any QR code or barcode. Scan a code, write your note (text, images, checklists), and update it whenever things change. Share a Space with your household or team so everyone sees the same notes. Free to use.

Do I need special QR codes or stickers?

No. NoteTag works with any barcode or QR code — including ones already printed on products. Cut a barcode from packaging, tape it to a container, and scan it. You just made a smart label from something you would have thrown away.

How do I get started?
  1. Download NoteTag (free on iOS and Android).
  2. Create an account.
  3. Scan any barcode or QR code with the in-app scanner.
  4. Write your note. Done.
Is NoteTag really free?

Yes. The free tier includes 20 notes, 2 members, and 1 Space — enough to organize a kitchen, a garage, or a craft room. There is no trial period and no credit card required. Paid plans (Family and Pro) add more notes, members, and Spaces if you need them.

Scanning & Notes

What types of codes can NoteTag scan?

NoteTag recognizes QR codes, UPC barcodes, EAN barcodes, Data Matrix codes, and most other standard formats. If your phone camera can see it, NoteTag can probably scan it.

Can I attach a note to a barcode that already has product information?

Yes — this is one of NoteTag's core features. When you scan a product barcode, NoteTag adds a private note layer on top. The original barcode data is unchanged. Someone scanning the same code with a normal scanner sees the product info as usual. Only NoteTag users in your Space see your note.

What can I put in a note?

Notes support rich text (headings, bold, italic, lists), images, and checklists. You can write expiry dates, instructions, contents lists, recipes — anything that helps you organize.

Can I edit or delete a note later?

Yes. Notes are fully editable. Update them whenever the contents change. You can also delete a note at any time — this removes it for all Space members.

Spaces & Sharing

What is a Space?

A Space is a shared container for your notes. Everyone in a Space can see and edit the same notes. Use a Space for your household, a team, or any group of people who share physical things.

How do I invite someone to my Space?

Tap the space icon in the top-left corner of the app, then tap Manage. Select the space you want to invite someone to and tap Invite. Share the QR code or invite link with them. They will need a free NoteTag account to join.

Can someone outside my Space see my notes?

No. Notes are private to the Space they belong to. Only invited members can see them. If someone scans the same barcode without being in your Space, they see nothing — or the barcode's original product data.

Subscriptions & Billing

What are the paid plans?

Family ($1.99/month or $1.49/month billed yearly): 75 notes, 5 members, 2 Spaces. Pro ($4.99/month or $3.75/month billed yearly): 225 notes, 15 members, 3 Spaces. Both plans are managed through the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android).

How do I upgrade or cancel?

Upgrades are handled inside the app under Settings > Subscription. To cancel, use your App Store or Google Play subscription settings. Your notes remain accessible even if you downgrade to the free tier.

What happens to my notes if I downgrade?

Your notes are not deleted. If you exceed the free tier limits after downgrading, you can still read all existing notes but cannot create new ones until you are within the limits again.

Privacy & Data

What are my data privacy rights?

You have the right to access, correct, or delete the personal data we hold about you. To request a copy of your data or for any other privacy-related questions — including GDPR requests — email contact@notetag.app. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law (e.g. 30 days under GDPR).

How do I delete my account?

Open the app, tap the space icon in the top-left corner, then tap Manage. Scroll down and tap Delete Account. This permanently removes your account and all associated data.

How do I delete a note?

Open the note, tap the three-dot menu in the top-right corner, and select Delete. This removes the note for all members of the Space.

How do I delete a Space?

Tap the space icon in the top-left corner, tap Manage, select the Space you want to delete, scroll down, and tap Delete Space. This permanently deletes the Space and all its notes for all members.

Troubleshooting

The scanner is not recognizing my code.

Make sure the barcode or QR code is well-lit and not damaged. Hold your phone steady about 15–20 cm away. If the code is very small or low contrast, try zooming in. NoteTag uses your device camera — if the camera can focus on it, the scanner should read it.

My notes are not syncing.

Notes sync automatically when your device is online. If you see stale data, try pulling down to refresh in the app. Check that you have an active internet connection. If the problem persists, email contact@notetag.app.

I lost access to my account.

If you signed in with Apple or Google, use the same method to sign back in — your notes are tied to your account, not your device. If you need further help, contact contact@notetag.app.
